Coach Mark Dearborn played his high school basketball at York
Catholic High School, captaining the winning the PIAA State AA title team in
1978.
Mark then went on to college at Saint Joseph’s University, where he “walked-on”
his freshman year, playing for current 76ers assistant coach,
Jimmy Lynam, Mark earned a scholarship after freshman try-out’s. Mark played in
the NCAA post season every year at St. Joe’s, and was a member
of the 1981 NCAA Elite 8 team that lost to eventual champion Indiana.
Mark captained the 1982 Saint Joseph’s team that made the NCAA Tournament, and
finished with a 26-6 record. After
the 1982 season, Mark was drafted by the NBA, Portland Trailblazer’s, and after
sustaining a severe leg injury was unable to participate in training camp.
Mark then headed off to play professionally in Australia, and was over sea’s
from 1983-1993. While in Australia Mark initiated a junior basketball program
in Albury, New South Wales that included the now WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson.
Mark is married with three children, and lives in New Milford,
Pennsylvania.
