Dear Parents and Players

We would like to introduce you to our new Travel AAU Program The Wilkes-Barre Lady Express and invite your daughter to tryout for one of our AAU Travel Teams. In conjunction with Backcourt Hoops in Scranton we have formed this new AAU program here in Wilkes-Barre.
The Directors Steve Horensky and Ted Zwiebel and are based out of the Wilkes-Barre CYC. This Facility is where all are some tryouts and all practices will be held.

What Is AAU?
The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is one of the largest, non-profit, volunteer, sports organizations in the United States. A multisport organization, the AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports programs. The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sport. The AAU works closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic games.
AAU Basketball is the highest level available in age group basketball. Playing AAU basketball will give the player the experience and instruction necessary to play at the next level and move them beyond the players that don’t put in the time, effort, or gain the game experience needed to excel. Additionally travel AAU offers players exposure to college coaches at various AAU tournaments.

Our mission is to provide the youth of the area the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of basketball at a highly competitive level. We offer a program, which will develop and improve individual as well as team skills, and promote good sportsmanship, and encourage team loyalty. We Demand a high degree of ethical conduct by all its players and parents so that it provides a good example for the community, the opponents, and it's participants, thus helping player’s growth to adulthood. We will provide our players with additional exposure, training, and experience to the game of basketball at some of the highest levels available, thereby enhancing their opportunity to play at the junior high, high school or college level.

Tryouts
Coaches will be on hand at tryouts to determine if a potential player has the necessary fundamental skills or raw talent to succeed in our AAU Program. Selections will be based on coach’s evaluation of performance during the tryout period. Our goal is to make you a better player. A regular AAU roster consists of 15 players. It is our intention to have only 9-11 players on each team, to allow us to give you the most game experience possible. Coaches and staff decisions are final as to which players will be on which teams. No fund raising.
THE PLAYING SEASON:

The "spring season" begins as soon as school ball is over and the teams are selected. Tournaments are played mostly on Saturdays & Sundays from the end of March to the end of May. Tournaments are usually 3-4 games per weekend.
Travel AAU team Costs
If selected to a team the first payment of $225 will be due upon selection. Balance will be due in 30 days. This fee covers Tournament entries, AAU Fees, Uniforms, Insurance, Coaches travel, Coaches and Court Rentals Fees. Per Tournament entry fees alone cost us $375-600 or more per team.
